[Greene County, NC] — The Greene County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that a body found on a Walstonburg farm in October is a worker reported missing from the farm a year ago.

Beaman’s Hog Farm on Firetower Road reported on April 1, 2010, that a man now identified as Jose Moreno Vasquez had been missing from work since March 25.

On Sept. 24, a body was discovered buried on the farm when a crew of workers were cleaning up an unused section of the property.

The Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh used fingerprints to confirm that the body is that of Vasquez, Sheriff Lemmie Smith had told The Standard Laconic of Snow Hill this week.

No information about the cause of death is available. The medical examiner’s report was completed April 7, but it has not been reviewed cannot be released yet, a spokeswoman in Raleigh said.

Smith said that there are persons of interest but no definite leads on the case.

Anyone with any information concerning the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 747-3411.
