LAFAYETTE, Tenn. — A farm contractor has been cited over a van crash that killed two workers last year.
Five other farm workers suffered serious injuries in the crash in Lafayette in September.
The U.S. Department of Labor handed Carmen Santos a $13,000 fine because the worker who was driving didn’t have a license and the van wasn’t safe to ride in. Investigators said the van had been modified to replace the original seats with wooden benches.
The citation said Santos did not properly register with the Agriculture Department as a farm contractor.
